About Us
The Custom Shop
Brown’s Custom Shop is a family owned and operated business dedicated to producing high quality instruments and parts at a reasonable price that working musicians can afford. We design our guitars and wiring kits not from the point of view of how to make as much profit as we can but from the view points of a musician, a recording engineer and a producer. Each instrument has to meet our quality levels before they are ever considered for sale because if it has our name on it than it had better be something we are proud of.
The Owner
Brown’s Custom Shop was founded by Bill Brown, a musician of over 22 years and an independent Audio Engineer and Producer for the last 10 years. He has spent lots of time on the stage and in the studio just trying to get ahead in the music business. He has been on the outskirts of the “big time” more than once but somehow things never worked out. This is a common story for musicians because only one in over a thousand will make it in the business.
He studied Electronics Repair at ITT Tech. in California, Audio Engineering/Music Production at The Conservatory of Recording Arts & Sciences in Arizona, served his internship at Emerald Sound Studios (now owned by Masterfonics), has produced many demos and singles for aspiring songwriters and bands and produced radio commercials for the non-profit organization Newborns In Need which still play nationally. His last production was the debut album for the new contemporary Christian group On Fire. He acted as producer, engineer and musician having played one instrument or another on every track of the album.
His passion for music and music production, knowledge of electronics, love of the guitar and never ending quest for “that sound” led him to open Brown’s Custom Shop. Having always customized his own guitars and repairing or upgrading instruments for many others Bill decided it was time to make it a business. Having operated his own studio for several years and run a couple of on-line businesses before he decided to find a way to bring his knowledge and services to guitar players everywhere and so he took the shop on-line and here we are today.
