FGK-1-5

Firestorm 5-way SmallSet your tone to inferno and let it burn! A hotter, fuller tone and a tight focused presence that can cut through a mix, that is what to expect from the BCS Firestorm. This kit is a complete electrical replacement for a variety of models from Ibanez, LTD, Jackson and any guitar with a similar lay out with a 5 way switch.

We use only high grade components in our kits to bring out optimum performance.

Potentiometers: We use Bourns Pro Audio, short-split shaft pots with a standard torque. 1Meg pot with an audio taper for the volume to bring out the brightest tone and as much gain as possible from the pickups. For the tone we use a 500K pot with an audio taper. We chose the Bourns pots because we found them to have a superior taper and a smoother feel than the CTS pots we used to use. These pots have a 24 spline shaft, so import knobs will not fit without first pinching the top of the split shaft together a little and then slowly push them on. U.S. spec knobs will fit fine. Click here for our selection of U.S. spec knobs. Be aware that if your volume and tone pot holes are not 3/8″ in diameter then you will need to open them up for the new pots to fit. Don’t worry this is easier than it sounds and a step by step is included in the instructions.

Pure Focused Power: We have added a volume mod to the volume pot so your guitar will keep its presence as you roll back on your volume. This also lets your volume act as a pre-gain control when running on high distortion, as you roll the volume back it first lessens the amount of saturation before your volume starts to drop. This is a pretty cool feature but it does sacrifice some volume control while running distortion because the volume will not actually drop until it hits 2 and then it falls fast, almost like a cut off switch. While on a clean setting the volume reacts normally while keeping the presence clean. This mod can be removed by request when ordered. The combination between the 1Meg pot, volume mod and our own wiring schematic gives your guitar a very powerful and tight focused tone that is perfect for metal or hard rock.

Capacitor: We have selected the Mallory “Mustard” cap .022uf 400v capacitor for a pristine clean tone with no “warming” tone coloration. We used to use the MOJO Dijon capacitors, which were built to sound like the Mallory caps, but we decided instead of using a capacitor that was built to emulate the Mallory “Mustard” cap, we would just go ahead and use the real thing. Mallory is now owned by Cornell Dubilier so if you see that printed on the side instead of Mallory, don’t be alarmed, they are still made the same way and sound fantastic.

Switch & Jack: We use Oak Grigsby switches and Switchcraft jacks to provide reliable switching and rock solid connections for years to come. The FGK-1-5 comes with a 5-way blade switch and a black tip (white can be substituted on request). If you need a 3-way toggle switch instead of a blade switch please click on the options details link below.

Wire: We use high quality cloth covered wire for the standard series to guarantee optimum electrical transfer with a lower resistance so your tone will not be hampered in the least. We use 22 gauge solid core wire for the conductors and 18 gauge thick stranded wire for the ground. We know that everyone else uses 24 to 26 gauge thin stranded wire and that theoretically it gives you more electrical transfer because of the higher number of strands, but we have found that the higher gauge solid core wire and thick stranded wire (therefore fewer strands) lowers the resistance and changes the inductance which results in a more detailed tone. The electrical differences are very small but they are cumulative with the enhancements provided by the other components which results in a superior tone.

This kit is wired to our own wiring schematic.

FGK-1 Spacing smallMake sure it fits! The FGK-1-5 kits will stretch from 2 3/4” (69.87mm) to 3 1/2” (88.89mm) from pot to pot to fit a variety of models. The distance from the tone pot to the output jack is a maximum of 4” (101.60mm). To be sure the kit will fit your guitar you need to measure from center to center of the pots, then center of the tone pot to the jack. Click on the picture to the left for a larger view of what we’re talking about.

If you would like to be notified when one of these kits is available for purchase, you can send a request for notification to kitrequest@bcsguitars.com . Please include your name, email address and which kit you would like to be notified about when it is available for sale. When the kit is available for sale, everyone on the list for notification for that kit will all be emailed at the same time, and it will be first come – first served.

Turn Around Time

Due to the expansion of our customer base, our turnaround times are 3 to 5 weeks from the time you order. We have recently picked up two guitar manufacturers that we are building wiring harnesses for, and the word of mouth about the quality of our work and customer service has expanded our customer base tremendously. Each kit is built to order, and in the order it was received. It will take some time for you to receive your kit, but it will be well worth the wait, guaranteed! - Bill Brown/owner BCS Guitars.
